Q&A with Fashion Pill

Founders of the FASHION PILL, Luisa Elvira Traina and Alexandra Strand Margulies each have over 20 years of international experience in the fashion industry. Luisa has worked in London, Milan and Scandinavia as a trend forecaster for trend agencies such as WGSN, Stylesight, Fashion Snoops and The Future Laboratory, working with clients such as Galeries Lafayette, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Selfridges, Todd  Ikea, Saks and Barneys to name a few. Thereafter she started working as Head of Design for Esprit Bodywear in Dusseldorf, followed by Design Manager for Vero Moda in Århus and then Creative Director for kidswear brand Mini-A-Ture in Copenhagen.
Alexandra Strand Margulies has worked in London as Print & Colour designer for department stores such as Debenhams and Marks & Spencer where she has created prints with high end designers Preen, Matthew Williamson, Jasper Conrad and Julien McDonald. She has also created tailor-made prints for high street labels such as & Other Stories, Arcadia, New Look and Boden to name a few. During her role as Colour & Print designer for H&M she lived in Stockholm and managed the collaborations with Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney.

“Alex and I believe that trends have over the past 5 years become too diluted and fluffy, and that it has long been time for a new way to forecast trends. With Fashion Pill  we want to inject creativity and tactility back into trend forecasting, providing our buying and design clients with easy digestible and tailor made trends which are instantly translatable and understood. We therefore chose to say no to online and trend book platforms and instead created Fashion Pill’s Treasure Trend Box. The Treasure Trend Box is the heart of the company, and is carefully curated and packed  prior to each meeting with a carefully curated selection of the newest trends.”

How has Fashion Pill evolved into the company it is today?
Alex and I have over 20 years experience in the fashion and design industry. We have worked with high end designers and departments stores and we have worked with high street brands and retailers. What is common to them all is that creativity is being drained, travel budgets are being cut drastically and design research is being conducted mainly online. This means the very essence of fashion, which  is tactile, creative and innovative is being diluted . Alex and I are determined to cure the fashion industry with Fashion Pill which will bring back tactility, fashion and that high back into designing. We refuse to believe that good, long lasting design which is turn is also more sustainable, can come out of designers being forced to scroll through pinterest for inspiration.

Which fictional character would you choose as a brand ambassador?
Alice in Wonderland and the Cheshire Cat.

It’s your first time working with CIFF/CIFF YOUTH – What are your expectations for the upcoming fair?
Firstly we are so excited and honoured to be collaborating with CIFF. We have decided set up a completely different trend stand from what is generally expected of trend forecasting companies. Our will mimic more a cosy home filled with cherished art and fabrics and furniture which make us feel inspired.  So we hope our more cosy approach will awaken peoples curiosity so we can show them how we can be of assistance.

What can we expect from you this coming season?
You can expect to be a sensory trend experience which leaves you with the joie de vivre to design and be creative. We will be offerring trend presentations and trend workshops where The Treasure Trend Box will unveil our AW20/21 trends and show you  how fun it would be to work with us at Fashion Pill.
